Today’s lesson consisted of four parts...the fist beginning with a review of the practice test homework on power rule and chain rule. Following the review, the students took homework quiz #4. We then discussed product rule and quotient rule (Click here for notes), reviewed the examples on the notes and finally, students worked on 8 in-class practice problems...3 of which were guided by the teacher. The homework is a worksheet consisting of 12 problems. There will be a homework quiz next class on product and quotient rule.

Power rule and Chain rule 5-24-07

Today's lesson consisted of two parts...power rule and chain rule, both derivative rules eliminating having to use the definition of the derivative. Click here for notes on both derivative rules. After each rule was explained, students worked on four practice problems (handwritten on overheads). The homework is a practice worksheet. There will be a homework quiz next class on the power rule and chain rule problems.

Today's lesson began with a worksheet warm-up on continuity and limits. After several minutes of partner/individual practice, we reviewed continuity as a class and went through the correct answers. We then began notes on the definition of the derivative (click here for student/guided notes not complete with homework attached, click here for overhead notes). The homework is a worksheet #1-7 using the definition of the derivative. Click above for a copy of the worksheet. There will be a homework quiz next class on the definition of the derivative and problems 1-7 on the worksheet.

Continuity and Limits 5-14-07

Today's lesson began with a warmup worksheet reviewing limits and graphs. Upon reviewing the worksheet the students took a quiz on limits (the pod cast does not include the warmup). The quiz lasted the majority of the class period. The last 10 minutes was spent defining continuity (click here for notes). Next class will begin with a review of continuity. There is no homework for tonight!

Limit of Sin x over x 5-10-07

Today's lesson began with a warmup of limits as taken from a graph. We then reviewed worksheet #6, the homework from 5-8. After reviewing the answers and problems of concern, the students worked in groups on 10 problems on the back side of the warmup worksheet. Once all questions and concerns were clarified, we began the new notes on the Limit as x approaches 0 of (sin x)/x (click here for notes and examples). We reviewed 6 examples and then the students finished the worksheet #6 #11, 19-23 pertaining to sines and cosines. The remainder of the class was spent working on the homework worksheet.

Today's lesson was the completion of the notes from 5-6-07. The class began with a review of the polar quiz (not on the pod cast). We then went over the homework found on page 750 and 760 prior to the homework quiz. Upon finishing the homework quiz, we studied the last page of the note handout given on 5-6 regarding th`e limit as "x" approaches infinity (click here for notes). Several examples were done in class from the handout. We then compared several general rules for limits and completed the handout with 10 examples of all types. The homework was then passed out in worksheet form. Problems to be excluded from the worksheet include #11, 20-23. Those problems will be completed in class as examples to 5-10 lecture.

Limits...an introduction to calculus 5-4-07

Today’s lesson was the introduction to Calculus! The class began by reading an excerpt from “Zero, The Biography of A Great Idea” regarding Zeno’s Paradox and Achilles. We then brainstormed ideas from the story to define a Limit. The class was then broken into three sections of notes, finding Limits using a table, a graph, and using direct substitution (click here for overhead notes). We then practiced each note idea with examples on the in-class handout. The homework is from page 750 3,5, 15-22 all, 37-55 odd and page 760 1-21 odd. There is a homework quiz next class.

Polar equations and graphs 4-30-07

Today's lesson reviewed the in-class investigation worked by the students on 4-28. The investigation included 17 questions and 40 small graphs to sketch. The lesson today broke the 40 graphs into the sub categories defined by each chapter. As a class, we discussed the conclusions and observations pertinent to each type of polar equation. The test/large quiz on polar equations and conversions is next class. Homework is found on page 689 19-34 of the text.

Today’s lesson consists only of the review of page 681 homework, # 39-77 odd. After reviewing the homework problems, the students took a quiz on conversions of Polar points and equations. The homework for the evening is to complete the Polar Graph Investigation project.

Today's lesson began with an overview of the agenda for the polar unit. We then discussed questions from the homework found on page 680 1-19 odd, 25-31 odd. We then began new notes on converting polar equations to rectangular equations and vise versa with plenty of examples both from the notes and even problems found on page 681 28-78. Click here for the notes. The last 5 minutes was spent going over and passing out the Polar Graph Investigation project due next Thursday, April 26. The homework for the evening is page 681 39-77 odd.

Today's lesson began with an overview of the next unit, Polar Graphs. Please listen to hear the schedule of upcoming assignments and/or tests. The lesson continued with an introduction of polar axis, plotting points, finding multiple names for points, converting points from polar to rectangular coordinates and vise versa. The homework for tonight is page 680 1-19 odd, 25-31 odd.

Today's lesson begins by going over the ellipse and circle homework. The class then took a homework quiz (not on the pod cast) based on the ellipse and circle homework. The focus for the day is hyperbolas with an emphasis on the general form of all conics. After 3 review problems on hyperbolas, the class discussed the general form and ended class working problems from the note hand-out. The homework is a worksheet on hyperbolas as well as to study for the large quiz on all conics using the general form.

Parabolas, Circles, Ellipses 4-10-07

Today's lesson began with a review of Parabolas from before Spring Break. The students, after reviewing worked in groups completing the homework worksheet on parabolas. We then began identifying and graphing circles and completed the class with ellipses. The homework is two worksheets one reviewing circles, the other, ellipses. There is a homework quiz next class on parabolas, ellipses and circles.

Today's lesson began with a review of the recent test on Sequences and Series (not audible on the podcast). We then reviewed graphing parabolas in standard form that open up or down, completing the square to put standard form of parabolas into vertex form, and graphing parabolas using completing the square that open left of right. There are several handouts associated with the lecture. There is no homework due to spring break!

Today's lesson went over chapter 8 section 5. This is the last section of chapter 8 prior to the test next class. The lesson begins with a warm-up worksheet reviewing arithmetic and geometric sequences and series. We then reviewed the quiz from sections 8.1-8.3 (not recorded on the pod cast). The lesson ended with section 8.5, Pascal's Triangle and the Binomial Theorem.

Today’s lesson started chapter 8, Sequences and Series. The lesson contained three parts: Sequences, Factorials, Summation/Sigma Notation. Today’s lesson begins by reviewing the test on chapter 5, Trigonometric Identities. The review of the test is not on the podcast. Please see me for help on test questions. The podcast begins by reviewing homework on Arithmetic Sequences and Series found on page 573-574 (1-25 odd, 35-41 odd, 53-67 odd, 77-79 odd). The lesson progresses into an in-depth look at specific Geometric sequences and Finite and Infinite Series. The homework for tonight is page 582-583 (1, 7, 11, 19, 21, 33, 35, 45-53 odd, 59-67 odd). There is a quiz on Chapter 8, 8.1-8.3 next class. Students may use a 3x5 index card with formulas written as an aid on the quiz.

Today's lesson begins with a review of the homework from page 372-373 1,3,6 (a only), 7-21 odd, 47, 55, 33-39 odd, 51, 58. The middle of class was spent completing an in-class practice on the Sum and Difference Identities in groups. The last part of the class was applying the Sum and Difference identities to two problems listed on the overhead.
